Program Planning

A well-designed plan increases the chance of achieving success.  A plan helps an organization focus on priorities and provides a process for people working together toward these desired results. It lays the groundwork for strategic thinking.

The Program Planning Process:

  1. Needs Assessment:
    1. Define general problem, issue or need
    2. Identify target population
    3. Identify assets and risk factors
  2. Capacity Building:
    1. Examine agency resources, skills and challenges
    2. Examine community resources and readiness
    3. Build collaboration
  3. Program Selection:
    1. Work with your team to develop program details

    1. Research programs and models for adaptation
    2. Prioritize risks and assets
    3. Examine program options
  4. Implementation
    1. Develop logic models and action plans to guide implementation planning.
    2. Use action plan to track progress and outcomes toward your goals and objectives
  5. Evaluation:
    1. Evaluate outcomes
    2. Improve program delivery
    3. Assess general impact
